Irish mobile phone companies o2, Vodafone and Meteor all allow you to send up
to 300 free text messages per month by logging on to their website. These web
interfaces can be slow and cumbersome when you want to send messages quickly to
your friends. o2 offers a desktop Text tool but you have to pay normal charges for each message sent.
As its name suggests FreeWebText allows you to use your monthly allowance of
free text messages from your desktop using a "better" � interface. You can
build up a list of contact names and send text messages quickly to each of
them.
FreeWebText Features:
Sends Text messages via your mobile operator account. Because it uses your
account all texts to your friends appear to come from your phone and number.
Contacts list
Message size indicator as you approach SMS limit of 160 characters.
Tells you how many free messages remaining this month.
Keeps a history of SMS Messages to search later.
All Login Settings, Contacts and Message History are stored in XML file format for easy editing.
How it works:
FreeWebText automates or "remote controls" Internet explorer in the background
to login and send requests to your mobile operators web site. Because the
website treats it as any other request the functionality of the website works
as normal, you are just controlling it from your desktop.
You may briefly see Internet Explorer appearing on your windows taskbar the 1st
time you send a text message. Because it has to launch internet explorer for
the 1st text there can be a noticable delay but every subsequent request reuses
the same browser so is much quicker. When you close FreeWebText it releases
this copy of the Internet Explorer browser.

history and contacts phone numbers are stored ON YOUR PC ONLY. FreeWebText
will check for a newer version of itself on www.spotlightIT.com during startup, the only information sent is your current version number.
